The Madison Cross Roads gymnasium was electric today as 225 3rd graders celebrated the end of this year’s Super Citizen Program. The sang together, took the Super Citizen pledge and received graduation certificates. Sure, they were being congratulated on exceptional performance in the 10-week civics, character, financial literacy and social studies curriculum. They were also here to complete their final project.

In a collaborative learning project called “Torch Teams,” students teamed up to honor a local hero from he community. Today, that amazing hero was Mrs. Amanda Elgin. And although she could not be in attendance to accept her Liberty Replica, student Janna Munson read a moving introduction and presented the award to Lighthouse Baptist Church pastor Randy Watts on her behalf.

The Torch Teams project lets students apply all the lessons they learned in the classroom
