On Nov. 7, 2014, Southside High School auditorium in Etowah Co., AL was packed with more thank 500 fifth grad students from Glencoe, Highland, Carlisle, West End, Southside & John S. Jones Elementary Schools. They waved American flags and sang loudly while waiting for The Next Great Americans Tour Bus to pull into town and kick off the Super Citizen Program in area schools.

After a count down, cheers and applause, Lady Liberty appeared on stage and took students on a journey through American history to introduce them to the 10-week program they will begin when the bus rolls away.

Through high-energy events, multi-media and an exciting course of study, students will learn civics, character, financial literacy, careers and social studies despite the shrinking sliver of time left in the school day for those crucial lessons. The Super Citizen Program maximizes understanding, retention and community involvement – and makes a lasting impression on all who participate.

In fact, these same students will take part in a project-based learning activity, Torch Teams, that sees these Super Citizens identifying everyday heroes in their own communities and honoring them on stage at program graduation later this year.
