Tuesday, September 15, the Next Great Americans Tour bus pulled up to Jackson Intermediate School to kick-off the Super Citizen Program. Clarke County fifth graders gathered in the gymnasium to learn lessons in freedom from Lady Liberty herself, but the students call her Libby.
She told them the story of her creation and how she represents everything that our country stands for. The students were thrilled to start this incredible program brought to them by Liberty Learning Foundation and they joined together in laughter, story and song. The Super Citizen Program will be incorporated into the classroom over the next weeks and will teach the students lessons in civics, financial literacy, social studies and character.
The boys and girls were reminded today of the incredible country they live in and how they can make a big difference in their community because they already hold the most important title in the United States: the title of citizen. Along with the City Council, Mayor Richard Long made today’s event and the next 10-weeks of curriculum possible for these Next Great Americans.
