Chaffee Elementary kicked off the Super Citizen Program today, September 23rd.  Sitting in the lunchroom, students waited on pins and needles for Libby Liberty™ to arrive on the Next Great Americans Tour bus.

Our statuesque (pun intended) Libby visited Chaffee today to introduce students to the 10-week civics, character, financial literacy and social studies program they will be immersed in after her bus rolls away.

She shared her history, the freedoms and ideals she symbolizes and one HUGE fact: that ALL of us already hold the most important title in the United States of America: the title of Citizen.

Understanding their roles in America’s future is the central focus of the Super Citizen Program. And with live performances, music and multimedia curriculum delivered at no cost by Liberty Learning Foundation, the program is impacting students in a huge way.

Test scores are rising, behavior issues decrease and educators tell us engagement and retention in these crucial studies is skyrocketing.

But the Super Citizen Program isn’t solely focused on grades and curbing unwanted behavior, it goes the step further teaching children to take the lessons they learn and apply them right in their own communities.

In the final unit of the program, classes team up to nominate and honor local heroes, from all walks of life, on stage. “They get to learn that when you honor a hero, you become a hero,” says Liberty Learning founder Patti Yancey.

Libby waved goodbye after leading everyone in attendance in her theme song “You in the USA.” And she challenged them to help in their classrooms, communities and country. “YOU,” she said, “will become … Our Next Great Americans.”

And on her exit, there were few dry eyes in the room.
