On Monday March 16, 2015, the Next Great Americans Tour bus rolled into Chattanooga, TN to kick off the Super Citizen Program at Chattanooga Charter School of Excelence. One hundred and twenty five 1st and 5th graders packed the gymnasium to cheer on the entrance of Libby Liberty™ who appeared on stage to bring history to life and introduce students to the 10-week civics, character, financial literacy and social studies program they will begin when the bus rolls away.
“This ‘rock-star’ approach is a powerful infusion of these crucial subjects,” says Liberty learning founder Patti Yancey. “We know this generation needs to be engaged with music, video and authentic learning experiences.” Yancey explained that the method was designed to combat the shrinking sliver of time educators have in their days to teach these important lessons.
To cap off the kickoff event, students joined Libby Liberty™ in a rousing rendition of “YOU in the USA,” the program’s anthemic theme song that reminds children (and a lot of us older folks) that WE have amazing opportunities and responsibilities as citizens of this great country we call the United States.
