More than 300 fifth graders from Hokes Bluff, Gaston, Ivalee, Duck Springs and Whitesboro elementary schools crowded into Southside High School Auditorium to count down to the grand entrance of a national icon. They chanted, clapped and counted down until Libby Liberty™, straight off her Next Great Americans Tour Bus, took to the stage for a high-energy theatrical performance.
Today’s event is the exciting kickoff of the 10-week Super Citizen Program schools will participate in thanks to generous sponsors, AlaTrade Foods. Students will learn lessons in civics, character, financial literacy, careers and social studies. “The program gets started in “rock star” style to engage our iPad generation in these crucial lessons,” says tour manager Tawanna Vickers. “And the resource kits donated to schools help educators teach them in the shrinking sliver of time they have left in the day after teaching STEM and testing.”
