Seventy-five fifth graders returned to the James W. Wilson cafeteria to graduate from the Super Citizen Program they have been immersed in for the past ten weeks. After learning critical lessons in civics, character, financial literacy, careers and social studies, these students will be honored for their achievements.

But they’re not the only ones being honored today. In fact, in the final piece of the program experience (brought to schools free by Liberty Learning Foundation) the kids join together to form “Torch Teams.” They nominated, vote for and, ultimately, honor local heroes from stage. These heroes are the everyday people who embody the characteristics students have been studying. 

It’s this real-world exercise that brings learning full-circle and out beyond school walls. Torch Teams helps children to model outstanding character and actions. Or, as we like to say, “When you honor a hero, you become a hero.”
