“ I hope they keep the excitement that we saw today with the kickoff,” says 5th grade teacher Jan Coryell-Mahone. “And I hope that they think deeply about Liberty and being a good citizen of America and that it continues throughout their lives.”
After today’s visit by Liberty Learning Foundation’s Next Great Americans Bus Tour, it’s not likely a day they’ll forget any time soon.
On Feb. 4, 2014 about 150 students watched as a smaller-than-the-real-thing, but bigger-than-life Lady Liberty brought the Statue of Liberty to life, led them in song and introduced them to the 10-week Super Citizen Program they will begin when the bus rolls away.
But Liberty learning Foundation isn’t doing this alone. It takes the help of great corporate citizens to power this crucial mission. Wells Fargo and Lockheed Martin teamed up to provide the funds needed for resource kits, teacher training and unforgettable events like today. Because of their investment, students here will learn crucial lessons in civics, character, financial literacy, career exploration and our Great American Story.
Morris Elementary Patricia Boyd reiterated the importance of these generous, local sponsors: ““ I just want to thank you for this opportunity, our children would have never ever had this opportunity to learn first hand about the Statue of Liberty and we could just have never done this without you. Thank you and I hope you continue to sponsor us with future events, thank you.”
