Eufaula Elementary School fifth graders honored several “Super Citizens” last week as part of the Liberty’s Legacy program at the school.
During the eight-week program, sponsored by Alabama Power, EES fifth grades classes learned about patriotism and civic responsibility.

At the program’s conclusion ceremony last week, Principal Reeivice Girtman explained that kids also learned about “American ideals” such as character development, citizenship, U.S. history and financial literacy.

“You don’t have to be the president to take these ideals into account and make yourself a better person for it,” said Girtman after quoting U.S. Presidents Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. “I believe our school will be better for it.”

Each fifth grade class’ “Torch Team” also nominated at least one “Super Citizen,” a person in their community making a difference through their everyday job.During last week’s conclusion, class representatives and “Lady Liberty” herself presented these citizens with miniatures of the Statue of Liberty.
