“Anytime you can make learning fun and exciting, outside of the classroom,” says Co. Board of education member Durden Dean, “they really get into it and you really make a lasting impact.” And that’s exactly what The Next Great Americans Bus Tour performances were designed to do.

Thanks to a generous grant from Alabama Power Foundation, the bus arrived at MacMillian Int. Academy Feb. 18, 2014 and Lady Liberty took the stage to kick off the groundbreaking Super Citizen Program in an unforgettable, energetic event that increases learning, retention and excitement for the 10-week lessons students begin when the bus rolls away.

Thanks to this corporate citizen+nonprofit+educator approach to rounding out the equation for truly life and career-ready kids, students will learn crucial lessons in civics, character, financial literacy, career exploration and our Great American Story.

Liberty Learning Foundation is the nonprofit conduit for delivering teaching kits, training teachers, coordinating volunteers and orchestrating these events, but none of this monumental impact would be possible without Alabama Power’s deeply entrenched community support.

Dean echoed the impact of the program and Alabama Power’s support: “I’ve been working with Alabama Power for almost 30 years through different programs, and they have ALWAYS been just great. They are great community partners, great community citizens- they’re heart is in the right place. And when you put it with the children, you’re setting the stage for good citizens for the rest of their lives and our lives.”
