Today, November 9th, 395 fifth graders from Evans Elementary School joined together to honor heroes, receive Super Citizen graduation certificates and take the pledge to continue becoming our Next Great Americans.

Contrary to what you might expect, these students are excited about civics, character, financial literacy, careers and their roles in America’s future. And after participating in “Torch Teams,” a project-based learning activity, they are ready to apply those lessons in the real world.

Today, they honored each of their chosen local heroes with Authentic Liberty Replicas – and they read essays on why their heroes were making tremendous impacts in their communities and our country.

Heroes honored today were: Albertville Police Department, Albertville Fire Department, Matt Killion, Jerry Henderson, Terry Morrow, Mayor Tracy Honea and Albertville City Council, Albertville Recycling Cente, Miguel Velasques, John Haney, Mark Sampson and Mrs. Angie Holliday, Crystal Henson, Tisha Goodwin, Dr. Clifton and Corey Garmon.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the room and the gratitude went both ways: Students learned that when you honor a hero, you become a hero yourself.

The Super Citizen experience, free civic education tools and exciting live events with Libby Liberty™ were made possible by the generous support of Alatrade Foods, Inc.
