At 1:00 pm on Jan. 15, 2014, The Thomasville Middle School gymnasium is packed with 125 fifth graders, parents, and city leaders. They waited excitedly to meet Lady Liberty, from Liberty Learning Foundation’s Next Great Americans Bus Tour. Her 45-minute on-stage performance is gets them excited about the Super Citizen Program they’ll begin in class when the bus rolls away. In addition to the required subjects Thomasville Middle teachers do such a great job teaching, this infusion teaches students crucial lessons in civics, character, financial literacy and our Great American Story.
Students watched the program introduction movie, learned an inspiring history lesson from Lady Liberty and sang rousing anthems. They left with a renewed spirit and a better understanding of the importance of their place in America’s future.
This is the second year that Thomasville has participated in the program. Last year, Principal Morris tells us, her fifth graders did a tremendous job, they can’t wait to have the program again this year.
The Celebration date is set for Friday, March 21st at 8:30am.
