Students, faculty & sponsors were so excited about today’s Super Citizen kickoff that there was literally a cheerleading session & pep rally amidst the performance by Lady Liberty & the Next Great Americans Bus Tour! 150 4th and 5th graders from McDonnell Elementary watched as Lady Liberty brought history to life and introduced them to the 10-week civic / character / financial literacy / careers / social studies program schools will begin when the bus rolls away. Today’s sponsor, Wells Fargo, has been a generous contributor in dollars and volunteers in the Tennesse Valley, and today Wells Fargo’s Kerry Williams took to the stage to energize the 5th graders about the program, excite the 4th graders about beginning it next year … and reiterating their committment to sustaining these crucial lessons for years to come.
The program will culminate with the Graduation Celebration and presentation of Torch Team heroes from the community. In the final putting-it-all-together piece of the Super Citizen Program students team up, nominate and ultimately honor local heroes who exhibit the character traits they have been learning. Or, as we say: “When you honor a hero, you become a hero.”
Though today’s performance & program were sponsored by Wells Fargo, we are still seeking sustaining donors to help expand the program to more grade levels and more schools. Will you help ensure no student goes without the chance to learn these powerful lessons? If you can help sponsor an event, resource kits, donate any amount or become a volunteer, please let us know.
