Today, over 200 fourth and fifth-grade students filled the Lee High School auditorium. After finishing 10 weeks in the Super Citizen Program, they are gathered to celebrate their accomplishments and honor local heroes from the stage.

These students have learned their important roles in America’s future thanks to an immersive experience in civics, character, financial literacy and social studies. And in the closing piece of the program, Torch Teams, students are applying those crucial lessons in the real world.

“Liberty Learning is probably the single most important program that’s happening right now for our young people,” says Rex Vaughn, president of Madison County Farmers Federation and North Alabama Regional V.P. of Alfa Insurance. “Our schools don’t have the time to teach civic responsibility in a classroom because so many other demands are pressing our teachers. But this is where community leaders, community organizations, and businesses can plug in to insure the future of our community, our city and Alabama as a whole can prosper and grow our country in the right kind of way.”

Students chose heroes who embodied the traits of amazing citizens and read essays from stage before presenting them with Authentic Liberty Replicas . They learned that “when you honor a hero, you become a hero!”
