On Sept. 14, 2015, 325 second and fifth graders from Waterloo, Rogers and Lauderdale crowded in the Lauderdale High School gymnasium to get loud for Libby Liberty™.
For these students, today marks the kick-off of their Super Citizen Program. The 10-week infusion of civics, character, financial literacy and social studies is presented by Liberty Learning Foundation and area sponsors.
Today’s event was led by the Statue of Liberty herself. Off her pedestal, she is called Libby Liberty™. Libby brought many lessons to the students this morning including her real measurements when on her pedestal in New York and what it feels like to have four million visitors each year. The most impactful fact the students learned: they hold the most important title in the United States – the title of citizen.
