Two hundred students at Pike Liberal Arts School in Troy got a huge surprise today as Liberty Learning Foundation’s Next Great Americans Bus Tour came into town for a theatrical performance and to deliver free teaching tools to their school. The students took the Pledge, sang the Naational Anthem and then waited on pins and needles for the special guest to appear on stage.

After counting down to her grand entrance, students watched as a costumed Libby Liberty™ took the stage and began bringing history to life! She shared history about the Statue of Liberty and the ideals she stands for then introduced students to the 10-week Super Citizen Program they will begin when the bus rolls away. Thanks to generous sponsors Troy Bank and Trust, these students will learn critical lessons in civics, character, financial literacy and our Great American Story.

‘It’s a rock-star approach to engaging children and the whole community,” says Liberty Learning volunteer Steven Jackson. “We know teachers have little time in their days for these lessons after they teach STEM and testing etc … the Super Citizen Program and these performances help schools adopt something that a whole lot more intensive that the “character workd of the week” so they truly have an impact on our next generation without adding a lot to their school day.”

Troy Bank and Trust president / CEO Jeff Kervin took to the stage to remind everyone in attendance of his committment to community and the great opportunity the students have to make an impact in the community and the country.
