The Super Citizen Program (Grades 3-5)
The Super Citizen Program makes learning history, civics, character, financial literacy and career readiness exciting. Our immersive learning experiences teach students to become responsible, outstanding citizens.
Addressing the urgent need for maximized civic, character, financial & career education in K-12 classrooms:
Just imagine a generation of students who excel in teach-to-test subjects but have little knowledge of civics, character, financial responsibility and career readiness. Will math and science alone continue our nation’s progress? Our students deserve to learn these guiding lessons–as well as the Great American Story that gives context to their important roles in our country’s future. We must teach them that they hold titles more important than “engineer,” “scientist” or “president.” That title is “citizen.”
Tools, Tactics & Technology for Teaching:
Because these life lessons are solidified through repetition and reinforcement, Super Citizen (3-5) complements, but does not require, prior completion of Super Citizen 1-2. The Super Citizen Program Resource Kit helps educators teach active civics through a 10-week experience that boosts engagement, retention and accountability in 3rd – 5th grade students. The process begins with a high-energy “Kickoff” performance (video or in person) and continues with video-led lesson-starters that walk educators through easy and exciting ways to reach the tech savvy generation in the classroom.
Lessons in American history, civics, financial literacy, character and career readiness are aided by expertly developed lesson plans and engaging digital resources. The Super Citizen Program Resource Kit includes the The Authentic Liberty Replica, stickers, flags, Statue of Liberty Crowns, Statue of Liberty Fun Facts, enrichment reading books, and student workbooks to round out the immersive experience.
Emotional & Impactful From Start to Finish:
The program culminates with a “Graduation Celebration” where students receive certificates, honor local “Torch Team” heroes on stage and stand in front of peers, parents, press and local leaders to prove they understand, and put into practice, like skills learned by studying gratitude, honor, empathy, good character and responsible citizenship.
“From a teacher standpoint, it’s so easy to use. Everything is ready and all the resources have been pulled together already, so we can put all of our energy into actually teaching the kids.” – Libba Harrison, 3rd Grade Teacher, Auburn City Schools
Torch Teams: Service Learning Component
When you honor a hero, you become a hero:
The Super Citizen Program culminates with a Graduation Celebration. Students receive certificates, read essays and honor local, everyday heroes from stage. This project-learning exercise lets students take the lessons they have learned and bring them into the community. The emotional event provides an opportunity for schools, local leaders, press and parents to become stronger in their efforts to improve civic engagement and success.
“The Torch Teams Project builds character. It’s showing those character traits and core values in people that they can see in everyday life. In everyday walks of life. In teachers, and police offices, firefighters, you know our servants in the community.” – Dana Harmon, 5th Grade Teacher, Gardendale Elementary
Watch Liberty Learning Foundation as they orchestrate live events to bookend the Super Citizen Program. The immersive experience boosts engagement, retention and … fun! In this video, students and grownups alike are treated to a surprise visit by country star Lee Greenwood. The feeling is electric, and the result is unforgettable!
Our Focal Symbol: The Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is a symbolic focal point for all Liberty Learning programs. She is an enduring symbol of freedom and is the embodiment of the ideas and ideals our country is founded upon. Her history is the perfect introduction to our great American story. And it is a reminder of the amazing opportunities and responsibilities we have as citizens of the United States.
Inside each Super Citizen Program kit, is one Authentic Liberty Replica. The replica is a chance for students to touch a real piece of America’s history. Students will also be able to reward their Torch Teams heroes with the included Torch Pin.
Libby Liberty™ Brings History to Life:
Because we can’t transport every student to New York to be inspired by The Statue of Liberty, we’ve brought her to you! Our Libby Liberty™ character leads educational performances full of song, video and historical facts that students will never forget.
She appears on program videos and is also the character behind several children’s books!

“We are extremely proud of the character building component. Dealing with 5th grade students, they are coming into change, they are coming to know themselves. Instilling in them good strong character is a part of what will develop them to be good students.” – Gwendolyn Wheeler, Principal, Jackson Intermediate School
The Liberty Learning “Pillars and Foundations of Outstanding Citizens”
The Liberty Learning “Pillars and Foundations of Outstanding Citizens” begin with an understanding that mastery of teach-to-test subjects alone will not ensure responsible citizens.
Our curriculum adds the “pillars” of Character Development, Financial Responsibility and Career Readiness—all on a “foundation” of our great American story that gives students a context for understanding their important roles in America’s future.
The pillar concepts are taught in conjunction with required subjects across the curriculum. Depth of study increases throughout the K-12 life cycle; preparing young adults with the life skills, passion and character they need to succeed.
